Can soar year around, although thermals are better in the summer. Non-profit club manages the soaring activities and provides a good environment, with members at all levels of experience.
The staff that I've interacted with is friendly and helpful. There are several Light Sport Aircraft, gliders, and traditional (Cessna, Piper) general aviation aircraft to take instruction in, or to rent (or both!).

Came to get a glider pilot license, had a great experience, passed my check ride on the first try. In fact I liked the airfield so much, I bought it - well, I bought a lot, and built a hangar home here. We live full time on the airfield now! Since then, a very nice upscale subdivision (Threshold Ranch) has been developed at the airport, and is now (2011) selling lots for people who prefer a more traditional house.
Currently flying put of Boerne and working on my glider solo. Nice place but full of powered planes buzzing around. So runway traffic does get high at times.
Came to get re-initiated into the great sport of soaring. The staff was warm, friendly, and accommodating. Would recommend coming here to soar (albeit you'll have a better time during the summer when thermal conditions are more active). Not much in the way of wave though, as the terrain is quite flat. Nonetheless, had a great time and if given the opportunity would return without question.
